A double cheeseburger from the Billy Goat — Chicago’s greatest subterranean journalism tavern. Met up for some after-work cocktails with colleagues to share war stories and talk shop. A couple other people raved about their egg sandwich. I was hungry enough I could have probably eaten one of those, too. Maybe next time.
The 260 calories afforded to me from today’s microwavable lunch fiesta didn’t quite fill me up, so I poured a bowl of Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal as a little afternoon snack.
I’m out of lunchmeat to make a sandwich, so I ventured into the freezer and came out with this — an Eating Right frozen meal called “fiesta chicken.” And boy, was it ever a fiesta. I actually crushed up some corn tortilla chips and drizzled them on top, as if they were oyster crackers on tomato soup. Not bad, actually. The chicken cubes were a little rubbery, but what do you expect?
Spaghetti Os for dinner! And no, I’m not 7. This meal cost me all of $1, since they were on sale the last time I went to the grocery store. My wife can roll her eyes at me all she wants, but this meal was frugal and delicious.
The East Haven, Conn. mayor was asked what he planned to do for the Latino community after four of the town’s police officers were arrested on federal discrimination charges. Naturally, the answer is tacos.
