My Sunday Spam adventure
I am not going to conceal the obvious: I am not a chef.
In fact, with the Missus still at theater rehearsal, I was a click away from ordering a pizza online for dinner. Then I remembered I had a 7-ounce can of Spam in the cupboard, and decided the time had come to turn it into something. I was feeling experimental.
Surfed through a few Spam recipe sites and came up with an action plan. Gathered an egg for scrambling, spaghetti noodles, garlic, frozen corn, red onion, chili paste, salt pepper and “dumpling sauce” which is a combination of soy and sesame sauces.
To clue you in to what the Missus thinks about my cooking prowess, she happened to call as I was prepping the kitchen. “If it’s no good, don’t eat it. Just order the pizza,” she told me.
Ha! I didn’t need to, you naysayer! It was a little dry, so I added a little more soy sauce and some Sriracha sauce. Presto. Sure, I may have over-sauteed the onions, garlic and corn as I was trying to brown the Spam cubes (I told you I’m not a good cook) but it came out totally edible. Dare I say: Tasty. Scrumptious, even? Yes.
I’ll order pizza tomorrow, thank you very much.
