A buddy of mine in my new neighborhood has been raving about the tacos at Los Potrillos, so I figured I’d give them a shot. Boy was he right.

Los Potrillos is a little Mexican grocery store, and they have a taco counter off to one side. They make the tortillas fresh. I wish I’d have taken a photo of the machine conveyor belt that rolls them out and slices them into circles. I had two steak tacos. Not quite La Pasadita good, but damn close.

Hardshell taco night! Grilled up the remaining leftover chicken from our recent run to Mr. Pollo. The Missus put together an amazing spread, complete with diced onions and tomatoes, lettuce, refried beans, grilled yellow and green peppers and a cup of sour cream.

You sneaky bastards. The Missus and I were driving by, saw the familiar La Pasadita sign and decided to stop in for tacos. As we walked through the door, we realized something very important. This wasn’t La Pasadita. Whoever owns this little taco shack apparently had a sign, covered up the ‘s’ and the ‘d’ and started a restaurant called La Palapita. Even though we felt tricked, we decided to give it a try. Steak tacos are not nearly as good as La Pasadita, but they did the trick.

Glorious grossitude! Burger King tacos! My heart skips at the thought, and not just because of the massive amount of sodium and fat.

Here’s the deal: I missed dinner while working late, so on the way home texted the Missus to find that she had, as well. I offered to pick up food, and to my surprise she demanded Burger King, of all places. So I made the most of it, ordering the secret non-menu item: Two tacos for $1.49.

Also, the chicken nugget combo meal. I ate all of it. Fries, buffalo sauce, everything. Then, as soon as I stood up from the dinner table, the Missus said it looked like I’d lost some weight.

Antonio’s Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles boasts that it has the “finest Mexican food anywhere in the world.” Bullshit. Whatever. The Missus and I and the couple we’re staying with stopped in here for a quick dinner before catching a play down the street. I had the beef tacos. Franky, I’ve had better Mexican cuisine in Iowa.

Chicken tacos. I sliced, seasoned and grilled the chicken-meat. It was exhilarating. A pretty nice spread for a Monday evening.
