The Thai fried rice with chicken from Penny’s Noodle Shop in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The Missus picked it up on her way home from work today. Always one of my favorite dishes at Penny’s — fresh tasting vegetables and the perfect amount of a spicy kick.
Two looks at the sliced chicken with vermicelli noodles, ground peanuts, bean sprouts and green onion from Penny’s Noodles in Northfield, Ill. I always add a liberal amount of hot sauce to spice things up. My only complaint with this dish is that it’s always extremely soupy at the bottom, and those dangling noodles threaten to fling sauce all over my shirt. It’s a dangerous meal, from that standpoint.
Ordered Thai food from Siam Taste Noodles. Never tried it before. Total win.
Chicken pad Thai, nice and spicy and flavorful. Ordered the chive dumplings, which were amazing — crispy and squishy in perfect proportion. And with the Missus’ entree, we qualified for free veggie egg rolls, which were flaky and delicious.
They have mixed reviews on Yelp, but I’m sold. I think I might have a new go-to Thai place.
After hosting a wedding shower for most of the afternoon, we decided to treat ourselves to a little Thai food. Instead of sticking with our usual place, we took a recommendation from a neighbor and tried The Spice.
After splitting some steamed vegetable pot stickers, I dug into my entree — the “Long Paradise,” which sounded exactly like what I wanted (foodwise and euphemistically). It was pretty good. Pretty much pad thai noodles with chicken, red and green peppers, baby corner, broccoli, carrots and napa (a type of Chinese cabbage) in a sweet tomato-based sauce. Super greasy, but when has that ever bothered me?
Chicken and vegetable noodle soup from Manee Thai. Since it’s pretty much my first real meal of the day, it hit the spot. Corn, peas, cabbage, bean pods, all kinds of good stuff in a chicken broth with noodles and hunks of chicken. If this doesn’t make me better, nothing will.
A delicious helping of chicken pad thai from Manee Thai on a Saturday afternoon. Not pictured: Two miniature chicken egg rolls that they threw in for free.
