I had a strong urge for some bad Chinese food. The lunch hour had come and gone and I couldn’t get away to eat. Finally able to head to Panda Express at around 2:45 p.m. where I ordered chow mein noodles, orange chicken and kung pao chicken.

Urge satisfied.

And judging by the fortune, it’s a good thing I followed my stomach’s desires. It appears it’ll pay off handsomely sometime. It doesn’t say soon, just sometime.

I needed to file some copy, so I headed to the Panera Bread in north suburban Wilmette. Got an M&M cookie and a glass of Mountain Dew. Place was pretty dead. I guess people had better things to do on a gorgeous Friday afternoon than hang out in Panera. Not the gentleman in the background reading the paper. He’s a regular. I need to introduce myself to him one of these days. I think he and I may have a lot in common.

A late lunch at Panera Bread in Wilmette, Ill. Been feeling gluttonous lately so I got the 450-calorie Asian Sesame salad. Tasty enough to make me not miss a greaseball burger-and-fry combo.

Brunch in the ‘burbs. Met up with a couple that is a few months away from having their first kid. We went to Walker Bros. Pancake House in Wilmette, Ill. and braved the daunting line that stretched out the door, but within 15 minutes we were happily seated at a table. I had the Santa Fe omelette and a short stack of pancakes. Delicious.

French dip sandwich and french fries from Ridgeview Grill in Wilmette, Ill. A quality lunch. I’d do it again. You can usually trust restaurants with an elderly clientele to have a good French dip. I’m a toddler compared to the regulars in this place, which leads me to think that I ate my lunch at 1:15 p.m. while most of the old-timers were getting a head start on dinner.

Popped into Starbucks to catch some free wifi, make some calls and eat a hunk of very berry coffee cake. A strangely productive hour and a half.
